The dry water bed of the Todd River turns into a torrential river as it gushes down this dusty, dry river bed.  So rare is this phenomenon that locals, tourists, news reporters and photographers from Darwin and around the country flock to the Alice to view this spectacle.  You could say it is the talk of the Territory when The Todd is flowing.

Cascading Wangi Falls, Litchfield National Park in the Top End makes a spectacular scene.  Whislt it flows all year round, the Wet Season, with the onset of torrential rains, provides the visitor with great photo opportunities of the falls but rendering it unsafe to swim in this very popular waterhole at this time of the year.

Australia’s Diverse Landscape

Travelling this diverse country, I have had the opportunity to witness this every changing landscape. The burnt out landscape of the Top End Dry Season with the burning of cold files [fires?] is a typical vista as you travel the Stuart Highway, down the Carpentaria Highway across the Barkly Tableland to the Queensland border. Taking in the smoking, dusty ochre anthills in the aftermath of a recent smoulding fire is a stark reminder that we are the visitors just passing through and that this is a process that has been practised for generations by ourfirst Australians to prevent   harsh, hot fires devasting this beautiful country.

Kakadu Wet Lands

Season-changing rains drench the burnt out wetlands heralding the onset of the Wet Season. Water lilies flourish, bird life dissipates with the abundance of food and crocodiles are on the move. Storm clouds build creating humid, hot days with the humidity so thick you cut the air with a knife. Once again, nature provides a spectacular show with the electrifying sounds of lightning and thunder (evidence of the all-powerful Rainbow Serpent, Garranga'rreli) as welcome torrential rain cleanses the Kakadu Escarpments.

The dry, parched Wetlands of Yellow Waters provide meagre pickings for these Jabirus and Magpie Geese, ever vigilant for nearby crocodiles looking for a quick snack. Food is now scarce until the onset of the Wet Season.

Photos of Han's Heysen Trees were photographed on a walk along the Han's Heysen Walk. The Cedars, a unique heritage property near Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills, is the historic home of one of Australia’s most noted landscape artists, Sir Hans Heysen. Numerous photos were taken of these beauitful tress on this walk.

Driving through the well timbered hills of Kilcoy surrounds and skirting around the banks of the Somerset Dam, my artist eyes take in this spectacular site that unfolds before me around every corner of this windy road around Sommerset  Dam. What more can I say?  An artist’s paradise. Inspiration for the taking. Well worth a visit - and don't forget the paint brushes

The Three Sisters - Blue Mountains

The Three Sisters famous rock formation in the Blue Mountains towering above the Jamison Valley is breathtakingly stunning. The changing colours from the early morning sunrises until the going down of the sun provide spectacular photo opportunities for inspirational paintings. Future trips are planned back to this fabulous vista, though misty, foggy days are to be avoided at all costs.

Sand Dunes

Sand Dunes

Coastal beaches and dunes begin with the accumulation of marine sand that is transported to the coast by waves and currents. In the case of dunes, sand is subsequently reworked by strong onshore winds (greater than 5 m/sec ) and then deposited behind the beach, principally being trapped in vegetation, but also accumulating at the base of cliffs and hills.

Norfolk Island

Norfolk Island

Yes, part of Australia, Norfolk Island is an extended Territory of Australia located in the South-eastern Pacific Ocean. What a hidden treasure this is! You do require a passport and  must go through Immigration procedures. Once through Customs and out on the road with you own hire car, which is part of the accommodation package, the scenery which unfolds before your artist and photographers eyes will leave you speechless. Up and down and around the hilly roads of the Island, the visitor has spectacular views of the crystal blue ocean which surrounds this beautiful Island. Take the paints, brushes, pencils, sketch books and be prepared for a  smorgasbord of inspirational delights.

In May 2015 I was fortunate to be part of John Wilsons painting tours on Norfolk Island, what a wonderful trip five full days of painting with this very respected artist.

If you are interested in Commissioning a painting from the various and wonderful photos that I took on the Island please contact me.

Remarkable rocks are one of the best known icons of Kangaroo Island. They are located in the Flinders Chase National Park on the western side of the island. The huge rocks look like a creation of demented sculptor.

The Great Ocean Road is an Australian National Heritage listed 243 kilometres stretch of road along the south-eastern coast of Australia between the Victorian cities of Torquay and Allansford. Built by returned soldiers between 1919 and 1932 and dedicated to soldiers killed during World War I, the road is the world's largest war memorial. Winding through varying terrain along the coast and providing access to several prominent landmarks, including the Twelve Apostles limestone stack formations, the road is an important tourist attraction in the region.
